Title:Back to the eighties!4 out of 6 readers found this review helpful
Like playing a game on an eighties amusement arcade machine. Shocking. Apparently some people like the fact that there is no download - this also means that people in breaks at work etc: so soft games sometimes. These '+' points don't concern me, and it is so awful I won't be playing enough to work off the, generous, bonus.

Might be useful if I am ever bored, not got laptop, and can't download, so 3 points for that.

Why anyone would choose this site for any other reason is beyond me.

Title:not great2 out of 3 readers found this review helpful
not a good site found it impossible to register and then when i eventually got there there was an issue with my card and had to provide ID which is unusual for a poker site as this is usually done when cashing out. Only positive is the tv channel which is good when it comes to learning about the game. thats the only reason i give this a 3.

Title:Rules don't apply when you have priority status on sky pokerl5 out of 8 readers found this review helpful
Lets be clear before I begin that this isn't some kind of bitterness towards Sky Poker because I've lost money, as far as I know after over two years playing on the site I'm still in front. Not a massive amount but in front all the same...

What this is about is Sky not enforcing its own rules. Specifically the rules that state a player may only use one account (once you've chosen your alias it must remain the same).

I became aware of a player getting his wife to play his account whilst he was at work so he could accumulate enough points to become a priority member on Sky. We happened to be on the same team (sky's community created there own teams a while back to encourage some healthy competition) and the members of these teams use facebook and other media to communicate. To my surprise he stated during one of these conversations, which several other players from the team were participants that it was actually his wife that had knocked me out of a tourney not him.

OK I can already hear some of you saying sour grapes, actually not... to me it was a case of someone cheating and I didn't want to be associated with it so the solution was simple.. quit the team and do your own thing I want no part of it which I duly did. Unfortunately when I logged onto facebook later that evening the team chat popped up and the player in question was calling me a sad c*** for getting annoyed over it.... that I wasn't putting up with so I complained to sky about it. Sky said they would look into it...

The player in question had been using that particular table alias since I first got to know him, as far as I was concerned it was pretty clear cut, sky could view the conversation if they wanted... he even stated he'd get his wife to lie to cover it up... it was all there in black and white, after all these things are all traceable back to the ip address they're sent from....

Six months later the same guy now plays using a different alias!! I understand that at one of sky's spt events he approached the head of priority members at sky and said that the original account was actually his wife's and he played the odd game on it (I assume this was to cover his ass).... this bit I admit is here say but its information I got from a team member via email which of course I still have...

Since becoming aware of this I noticed the guy has won or been placed in tournys and won no small amount of cash for his trouble... in fairness he's a good player...

Simple fact is if sky had enforced there own rules he should have been banned, if not then certainly now, not much point in having a section for player notes if you can't be sure its the same player....

Those who lost out to him in tournys should be laddered up, some guys who don't realise it should be over £500 better off!! I'm led to believe poker stars had a similar issue and they compensated people who would have lost out... its multi accounting...

What else are sky turning a blind eye too? Either way I'm gone...

I have been playing on skypoker for around 8 months now and have found no problem with the site whatsoever. There isn't a huge range of scheduled tournaments and the SnGs are nearly all single table but for a beginner or recreational player there should be enough to keep you busy.

I agree that the SnGs are weighted towards turbos and there is a bit of collusion in the DYMs from time to time but I don't play DYM any more, was really only using it to find my feet. I mostly play scheduled games at low to mid stakes and sattelite into some of the higher stakes tournaments from time to time.

As with any site you will get crazy plays at the low stakes and due to the higher number of ridiculous calls you will get a higher number of ridiculous beats. That's just poker, it happens. I have seen it happen on all of the sites I have played on.

Seem to be a huge number of idiots on this site who can't take a bad beat from time to time. Over the course of a tournament you're very lucky not to come across a bad beat at one stage, after all it is a mixture of skill and luck. A lot of people seem to think that pocket aces entitles them to win the hand. Yes, it is the best hand pre flop but even if your opponent was calling with 2,7 off you will still lose the hand one time in 8 over a large number of hands.

If you can't take crazy plays then don't play low stakes. If you can't take bad beats then don't play poker. It is widely accepted that the standard of player on skypoker is lower than on other sites and it is exactly that which should make things easier for you even if you do get called with scrap and beaten more.

Title:SKY POKER WEIRDNESS4 out of 7 readers found this review helpful
Last straw today for Sky poker....

Entered a timed tournament (which is where i usually make most money) and their Analyst Rich Orford was in the lobby, i thought i'd join and take his chips...yet to my amazement...

Stack had dissapeared, Name had dissapeared, Hole cards had gone too..... someone has got into the system or someone is abusing it.....on the table everyone was complaining about same thing...we all had to play blind- SOOOOO TILTING!!!!!

A select few could still see their cards ( the ones who won the most money) while the rest of us played Bingo with our lack of cards an stacks etc....

I phoned Sky Customer Support who said NOT ONE person had rang up to complain, yet at my table everyone was saying they would complain and somehow they reckon no-one did.....i asked them to investigate, the duty manager suggested it was my computer which was unlikely as i was in another Guarenteed Tournament at the time which was working fine....

They did refund my Buy-in.....but i potentially lost out on alot of money because of this nightmare....

How can they not know if their system is not working properly....i looked in the forums to see if anyone had same issue

apparently not...they're running some scheme tonight where if you copy and paste your ROI for timed tournaments into the forum you win a ticket into the 12K bounty hunter....all the forum regs seem fine....

yet little old me gets kicked in the nuts.....

they sure do look after their own and thats about it...

i make about £20 in rakeback per month, the freerolls are a waste of time, the server lags out when you have a monster time and time again.....

you cant withdraw money unless you deposited the same amount on the exact same when your credit card expires you have to re-deposit say £20 if you want to withdraw £20 stupid stupid stupid....

ive built my bankroll up and if my card expires which it will soon my money will be stuck...WTF.....

TILT is a mild word for what im feeling right now.....AAAAAAARGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

I love sky poker. It is the best poker site on the web and those who complain about it being rigged have NO IDEA about variance. Even though I never win as I don't know one end of the deck from another I love it there.

Joined end of Feb £5 deposit. Provided I played any cash game was entitled to enter New Plyr freeroll in March which was for £10,000. Played couple of 60p sit and go which was enuff for entry. Structure was 200 places paid, lowest £25. Only 900 entered of which about 20% didn`t turn up. No rebuys and blinds were ok. I finished 84th..£40.
Also have £1000 freerolls at various times, no rebuys and costs about 60 points to join. 1500 max plyrs. However they give you 500 points when you join the site. You get 6 points per £ bet.
I only play small sit`n go which are ok for me. Dunno about bigger money tourneys, can only say how I find it for me.
So I have been their about 2 wks, deposit £5, now have £60.

Title:The Worst Poker Experience of My Life2 out of 4 readers found this review helpful
OK so you've just reached the Final Table of an important tournament. Why would you want to play that FT when you could instead not play at all and just watch the chips changing hands in the lobby?

The obvious answer being that you can't actually win any hands if you're sitting out of the game, so you'll just get blinded out!

So nobody in their right mind would ever want to do this, but if you ever do then go play SKY Poker!

It was a couple of night ago in their UKOPS 3 event with £5k (~$8K) up top. I was chip leader and had just busted the 7th placed player to reach a 6 handed FT. And then I get told I'd disconnected from the table for the 3rd or 4th time that tournament. Again I went to the tournament lobby to reload the table as I had done before. Except this time it didn't work.

During the next 70 minutes I posted an urgent message on their forums and tried about 10 different things to get playing the game again. Nothing worked. So I sat there watching from the lobby as I got blinded out in 4th. I don't know where I would have finished had I been able to play, but I lost a ton in equity. Sitting out either made me a maximum of £500 (6th to 4th) or lost me a maximum of £3.3k (4th to 1st). It was one of the worst experiences I've had in 5 years of playing online poker.

I could load up and watch every single table on the site except from the one that I was playing. There was nothing wrong with my connection. Sounds like a software fault to me. I checked with people on their forums and sure enough other people had encountered the same problem on numerous occasions.

So I contacted customer support to complain about this. Just like I expected I got a cut 'n' paste reply saying how the defective Sky Poker software malfunctioning is somehow my fault, and they aren't responsible for failing to provide a reliable service. They have no interest in fixing their shoddy software so things like this will continue to happen.

This is their marquee series and was initially planned to feature the highlights of the final stages in a TV show. Because of what happened they couldn't show the event without having to explain why one of the players was sitting out the entire time, so they had to switch coverage to another tournament instead. I received absolutely no official acknowledgement let alone apology or compensation. Their customer service is nearly as bad as the poker client.

The moral of the story is to avoid 3rd rate poker sites with horrible software. All types of things can go wrong and it could cost you.
