PokerStars corrects web design problems, recovers Google rankings (September 7, 2008)

PokerStars has recovered from a massive loss in Google rankings, according to PokerScout's search engine results tracker. As reported last week, PokerStars temporarily lost its top rankings for many high-volume search terms, including "poker," one of the most frequently searched terms on the Internet. The cause of the problem was apparently a series of web design errors which led Google's crawler to devalue the PokerStars.com and PokerStars.net homepages. (A Google penalty was also cited as a possible reason for the sudden drop, but the rapid recovery makes that scenario unlikely.)

The web design issues were quickly corrected, and PokerStars is now back on top. The world's largest poker site has regained its number one rankings for the lucrative search terms "online poker" and "free poker." PokerStars has also regained its top ten rankings for "holdem" and the holy grail of search terms, "poker."

Crashing into the top ten for "poker" this week is a play-for-fun casino download for the iPhone called MotionX Poker. Freepoker.org also jumped up 75 spots to the number four position for (what else?) "free poker."
