Poker content creators remain frustrated by what they view as YouTube’s continued targeting of their channels. Now, Daniel Negreanu is decrying the new vague policies and seemingly arbitrary enforcement regarding poker.
Negreanu went on X to bring attention to what he says is YouTube actively seeking to destroy poker content:
YouTube truly has a clear objective to destroy poker content.
I stream this series every year, but this year all the streams were age restricted within 10-15 minutes, which causes the algorithm to dwarf viewership.
Roughly 75% drop to the average viewership over two weeks.
YouTube’s aim is to restrict gambling content to users aged at least 18. That policy has been in place for months. Now, the restrictions kill any promotion of the videos at all. As Brad Owen explained in a reply under Negreanu’s post:
We already click a box that says ‘not made for kids’ which restricts it to 99%+ 18 and older. When YT ‘age restricts’ videos they just don’t promote them to anyone anymore basically. Views almost completely die.
YouTube has caused issues for many poker content creators in 2025. One recent example was YouTube permanently removing the channel of Fernando “JNandez” Habegger. Likewise, popular poker vlogger Owen thought his account was gone for good when YouTube sent him the dreaded notice without warning. Even though Owen was able to retrieve his accounts after a frustrating appeals process, the worry remains for poker content creators.
While Owen had his channel reinstated, others have not been so lucky. Owen has a large following and has benefited from many people reaching out to YouTube on his behalf. Smaller content creators would not have the same benefit.
Restrictions Not Applying to Other Gambling Channels?
Another source of frustration for poker content creators is that while YouTube has cracked down on poker, it seems not to have done so on other gambling-adjacent channels.
As one frustrated Owen follower pointed out:
Poker vlogs being taken down meanwhile if you scroll youtube live there’s 40,000 sweeps coin scam casino online slot players broadcasting their fake scam gambling. And there’s also 100+ slot channels doing slot gameplay at real casinos and uploading it w/o issue
Poker vlogs often showcase real strategy discussion that goes far beyond simple gambling, yet many slot channels seem unaffected by recent policy changes.
Another aspect that sounds the alarm for poker content creators is that the pushback and complaints seem to have little effect. Even the most influential voices in poker, such as Negreanu, have not succeeded in changing YouTube’s new policy.
