High-stakes poker player Ye “Tony Mars” Shen was arrested in Las Vegas for allegedly cashing bad checks at the Wynn, landing him in legal trouble that he had avoided years before for his various alleged nefarious activities in the poker world. He was charged with passing a check with insufficient funds and with one count of theft of more than $100,000.
He wrote two bad checks that totaled more than $300,000. The charges came back in March for checks written in December 2024. But he was not booked until May 14 at the Clark County Detention Center.
Tony Mars Home Game Cheating Controversy
Shen, from Shanghai, China, was a regular player on the high-stakes poker streaming show Hustler Casino Live (HCL), where he played under the alias Tony Mars. He was up as much as $850,000 in high-stakes poker in Dec. 2022.
But he was banned from HCL in Dec. 2023 after fellow high-stakes players Nik Airball, Wesley Fei and Charles Yu revealed that Shen was an alleged home game cheater in the Los Angeles Chinese high-stakes poker scene in Irvine.
Those three and others accused Shen of a myriad of cheating tactics in his Irvine home games. Marked cards, rigged decks, and mechanic dealers were among their charges. Nik Airball even said that Shen cheated as much as $1 million from him.
Shen had indicated that he was headed back to live in China after being banned from HCL. But it appears as though he made his way to Vegas for an unknown amount of time. It is unknown whether the checks are related to poker or other gambling activities.
Karma Hits Tony Mars: Can’t Get Away With It Again
Other than being banned from the streaming show, the 42-year-old did not face any other repercussions from his alleged home game cheating.
Todd Witteles of PokerFraudAlert indicated that Shen finally getting busted is a bit of justice for past transgressions against the poker community:
For those upset that Ye ‘Tony Mars’ Shen never faced consequences for his alleged cheating in the infamous Irvine home games, you’ll be glad to know he’s been busted for writing bad checks to the Wynn.
Former HCL player Wesley Fei celebrated the news the most on X. Fei claims that Shen scammed him for as much as $4 million with a complex multinational cheating team. He claims Shen threatened his life after he exposed him and even sent assassins after him. He also suggested that Shen was connected in some way to the Chauncey Billups home game cheating scandal.
Fei summed it up by saying, “Karma’s hit every single one of them.”
