A massive cybersecurity breach has compromised as many as 16 billion records from multiple websites. Apple, Google, Facebook, and Telegram were just a few of the more notable ones affected by the breach, with passwords being at risk.
Malware used by cybercriminals to steal information likely compiled the records to put them in peril. The information was only available for a brief time, but the damage was already done.
Cybersecurity expert and researcher Jeremiah Fowler explained the seriousness of the situation:
“As far as the risk factor here, this is way bigger than most of the stuff I find, because this is direct access into individual accounts. This is a cybercriminal’s dream working list.”
Included in this data breach are government accounts from as many as 29 countries, as well as millions of private citizens.
Everyone is being urged to change passwords to the various sites in order to protect their data from cybercriminals.
Should You Change Your Poker Logins?
This story is one every online poker player should take note of. Although security experts recommend using a different password for every site, many players recycle passwords so they don’t have as many to memorize.
If you’re one of those, your poker site passwords could be at risk in this breach. We highly recommend changing your passwords for all poker sites if you’ve ever used those passwords anywhere else, even if you don’t currently have any money on the site.
It would also be advisable to mix up the passwords and not use the same one for poker that you do for other sites moving forward.
