LIGHTNING STRIKES: Dominik Nitsche Wins 888 Superstorm Main Event; Series Scores Big

After more than a month of action, the Millions Superstorm wrapped on Oct. 11 at 888poker. The series became the largest in site history, with more than $8 million paid out.

A nice win by 888 ambassador Dominik Nitsche served as the series highlight. He capped the festivities by taking down the main event for $121,146 and spoke with PokerScout about the win.

Nitsche is no stranger to poker fans and has scored at some of the biggest events in the world. That includes $18.6 million in live tournament winnings and four World Series of Poker bracelets.

His biggest score came in 2017, when he took down the €111,111 Big One for One Drop at the WSOP Europe for $4.1 million.

The latest score for this German poker superstar came with a six-figure payday on his 30th birthday. It made for an even bigger reason to celebrate and his role as 888 ambassador made the win even sweeter.

“It did feel extra special,” Nitsche says. “David Tuchman and Nick Wealthall were following my table from 200 players down on the official live stream. It definitely felt like a lot of people in the chat were rooting for me.”

Like many players, the Coronavirus pandemic has had Nitsche away from live poker. This shift has paid some nice dividends however. The time away from the live game has also given him more time for poker coaching.

“I’ve been playing a ton of online poker, mostly tournaments with really good results,” he says. “This score came at the end of a many months-long series grind. I’m pretty exhausted and haven’t really felt like playing since that [888] win.

“I’m sure that will change however in a few days. But for now I’m really just working on dto.poker [poker training site], playing video games, and hanging out with my girlfriend.”

A look at the numbers and highlights

Superstorm players were treated to numerous events daily throughout the last month. The entire series attracted 180,000 individual entries and 245,000 including re-entries.

The total paid out, $8.3 million, easily topped the guarantee for the entire series.

The main event attracted 3,196 entries and beyond Nitsche, two more players also locked up six-figure scores. The top four players reached a deal prior to playing it out for the title. Here’s a look at all the top finishers:

  • 1st – Dominik “888Dominik” Nitsche (United Kingdom), $121,146
  • 2nd – “GarbinaD” (Malta), $112,609
  • 3rd – “Artemka168” (Russia), $106,194
  • 4th – “MrMarley83” (Canada), $80,551

In the $530 High Roller on Oct. 6, there were 132 players jumping in the high-stakes action. An additional 33 rebuys meant a prize pool of $82,500.

Nitsche’s fellow 888poker ambassador Sofia “sofialovgren” Lovgren, of Sweden, made a nice run. She found herself at the final table but finished sixth for $6,000.

Another Swede came out on top instead. Niklas “tutten7” Astedt took the title for $23,000. With the Millions Superstorm now in the books, no doubt more is in the works at 888.
