Grosvenor Casino in Swansea has closed for good, following a letter to employees a month ago informing them of the possibility. The official website posted a goodbye message thanking the customers and team members while announcing the closing.
Employees at the casino received a letter in late July stating that Grosvenor had found significant and sustained financial challenges following a detailed review of the performance of its Swansea property. The casino’s final day was Aug. 30.

Grosvenor Casinos Struggling Financially
The Welsh property in Swansea is not the only Grosvenor location to face financial hardship recently. Grosvenor Casino Reading Central is also in dire straits and may shutter its doors as well.
Both struggling Grosvenor properties cited rising operating costs as one of the reasons for the dearth in revenue. Grosvenor Swansea had a profitability decline of 107% in the last 10 years.
Grosvenor Swansea had generally poor reviews based on online rating sites. Many people cited an uncomfortable environment and unwelcoming staff. One even called it “the worst casino I have ever visited.”
Poker in Wales
Grosvenor Swansea had a poker room that was also not well-received by players. One reviewer on TripAdvisor called it “not real poker.”
The card room at Grosvenor Swansea isn’t really poker-focused — it’s more like a gambling hangout disguised as a tournament. The atmosphere is clearly designed to encourage all-in action and rebuys rather than structured, strategic play. Many regulars treat it like a cash game with chips flying in left and right, and the staff seem to encourage that vibe. If you’re a casual or visiting player hoping for a fair, skill-based game, this environment is very unappealing.
The casino held Grosvenor poker tournaments in the past, most recently in 2019 for the Grosvenor Deepstack Series. More recently, it held a self-run tournament of champions in 2025 and some freezeout events in 2023.
Elsewhere in Wales, Les Croupiers Casino in Cardiff remains a popular place for some weekly local tournaments.
Grosvenor Poker Series Unaffected
The 2026 Grosvenor Poker schedule is unaffected by the closures of the Swansea and Reading Central Casinos, as neither hosted any events. The series traverses the U.K., with most stops in London and its outskirts. It also goes into Scotland but does not appear in Wales.
There is a lack of stops on the western and southern coasts of the U.K., as well as in Wales. A Welsh stop for the series would have been a nice addition to the schedule for players there, but the casino’s struggling condition killed that possibility and any potential it had.
