The poker world is getting some fan service in the video game Hitman World of Assassination as the Bond villain Le Chiffre will be the game’s latest “Elusive Target”. The character, played in Casino Royale by Mads Mikkelsen, will be one of the game’s villains, serving as the target for the player to eliminate.

The trailer introduces a scenario that briefs the player character, Agent 47, on their mysterious target. Le Chiffre is seen walking through what looks like a luxury French casino. It appears that Le Chiffre has not lost his love for poker through the years. He can be seen sitting at a poker table in the trailer.

Elusive Targets live up to their name, as players only get one shot at them. They appear in the game for a limited time, with 10 days being the norm. Succeed or fail, once the mission ends, the chance is gone for good. Completing Elusive Target missions successfully unlocks in-game cosmetic rewards.

Casino Royale Provided a Memorable Silver-Screen Poker Moment

Poker fans will recall the poker scene from the 2006 James Bond movie Casino Royale. Despite its presence in the public imagination, poker sometimes feels underrepresented in film. Casino Royale provides arguably one of the most prominent recent depictions for a mainstream audience.

Mikkelsen’s character participates in a nose-bleed stakes cash game with Bond and other prominent world criminals and dignitaries. Le Chiffre clearly knows how to play cash game poker in the scene, as he is calm and collected during the hands, seemingly always in control.

However, Le Chiffre is ultimately defeated in a wild multi-way pot. Many millions of euros change hands, far outstripping the largest cash game pots in real life on HCL. The villain’s hubris gets the best of him, clouding his judgment and poker strategy as he clashes with Bond.

In the end, the hand depicted in the movie is one that defies all of the poker probabilities and odds. Bond has a straight flush to beat the full house of Le Chiffre to win the pot of around $115 million.

We will have to wait until the release to see if players of Hitman World of Assassination will be able to face off with Le Chiffre in similar high stakes cash game action.
