The World Poker Tour (WPT) is a long-running brand in live tournament poker that has recently branched out into online offerings.
During the poker boom years, WPT emerged as a year-round competitor to the annual World Series of Poker (WSOP). Whereas WSOP, at the time, concentrated all its tournaments into a single block in the summer in Las Vegas, WPT organized smaller “stops” at a variety of locations around the world. The Main Events of these stops were designed for television viewing.
WPT continues to be one of the biggest providers of live poker, though the spectator sport aspect isn’t as important as it once was. Meanwhile, it has launched WPT Global as a real-money site for the global online poker market, and a pair of sweepstakes-based sites for the U.S.
ClubWPT uses a subscription model, while ClubWPT Gold originally used a dual-currency model similar to sweepstakes casinos. Due to legislative action against that model, it has switched to a novel system in which players earn their chips by purchasing training credits for a built-in, AI-driven GTO solver.
