Resorts World is giving back $42,424 to its poker players in the days before the Las Vegas poker room shuts down for good. After months of rumors, Resorts World poker room confirmed it will shut down on March 30 after nearly five years of operation.
In the days before shutting down, $42,424 will be up for grabs in promos at the cash game tables. Announced on the Resorts World Las Vegas poker room X account:

Reminiscent of a store’s closeout fire sale, the room will add extra money to the pots with $400 high hands for 10 hours per day for nine days.
Gaming Commission rules typically require that these promotional payouts return to the players. Therefore, casino closures are often accompanied by these sorts of bonanzas. Before the Mirage closed, it had $1.6 million in its promotional fund. Every seat in the casino was reportedly filled in the property’s dying days as guests vied for six figures per day in extra payouts.

Why is the Resorts World Poker Room Closing?
The poker room has not provided official reasoning for its closure. Still, speculation has swirled.
A few commenters on X and Reddit users blamed poor management of the casino as a whole. One X user had a particularly harsh sentiment about it:
Good, resorts world is an absolute disgrace and a pitiful excuse of a property run by incompetent morons and they deserve all the financial pain they’re enduring and more
Location was another factor frequently discussed. The room was located on the far north end of the Vegas Strip, far away from any other poker room. A player would have to go out of their way to specifically play at Resorts World. The only room that’s somewhat close is Wynn’s, widely considered one of the best in Vegas and therefore a far superior option to Resorts World.
The most consistent reason people mentioned was the low player traffic. One Reddit user mentioned the depressing vibe of a large, cavernous room with only two or three tables running.
Several poker rooms in Vegas have closed recently, like the Planet Hollywood poker room. Poker Rooms are typically not very profitable for casinos when compared with slots and table games. If a poker room isn’t performing extremely well, it’s an easy target for management wishing to optimize floor space.
