Phil Hellmuth is one of the biggest names in boom-era poker who is still as active now as he was 20 years ago. Known as “the Poker Brat” for his occasional, ego-driven tantrums at the table, Hellmuth has demonstrated time and again that he has the skills to back up his self-image.

Like many of the old guard, Hellmuth has a style based more on feel (what he calls “white magic”) than modern “theoretically optimal” strategies. As such, he is not an elite player at high stakes against other professionals. However, he has one of the most successful track records in the game at large-field tournaments against more typical opposition. He holds a record 17 WSOP gold bracelets and $27.4 million in lifetime winnings as of 2025.

During the boom years, Phil Hellmuth was a prominent ambassador for PokerStars. Today, he represents the newly opened BetRivers Poker, serving U.S. players in four states.
