One of the largest poker rooms in Texas nearly had a big scheme take place before the culprits were caught. Texas Card House Dallas (TCH), which gets tons of daily traffic, uncovered a plot by a few schemers to create counterfeit chips. These chips were made to imitate the ones used for all types of poker games.
The suspects were identified, and the necessary steps have been taken to quell any such attempt and bring some law enforcement into play. This story is negative for Texas, the opposite of a positive story about a large bad beat jackpot hitting in Texas recently.
The plan did not seem to go very well as the individuals attempted to cash in counterfeit chips at TCH. They were caught almost immediately.
While the attempt violates the Texas Penal Code regarding trademark counterfeiting of the TCH brand, what will determine if charges can be filed is if intent is proven. The prosecutors must prove that there was a clear understanding and intent that the items were counterfeit and were meant to be used in a counterfeit manner.
Texas Card House addressed the issue on their Facebook page, where they assured their many players that they are committed to safety and game integrity.
Hello TCH Players,
We care about your safety and the integrity of our games. Recently, we’ve come across some counterfeit chips in the DFW area. To protect yourself and ensure a fair play experience, please avoid trading or buying chips from individuals.
Remember, the only way you should get your chips is to purchase and cash them in directly at one of our Texas Card House clubs. This way, you can guarantee their authenticity and help protect the integrity of the DFW poker community.
Your safety is our top priority, and we’re committed to providing you with the best playing environment possible. TCH is actively working with authorities to prosecute anyone found intentionally trying to pass along counterfeit chips.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
