The 2025 World Series of Poker is roughly a third of the way through its schedule, and to nobody’s surprise, double bracelet winner Benny Glaser is leading the Player of the Year race. Sitting at 2,035.53 points as of June 11, he’s the first player to have made it north of 2,000 points.
Glaser earned his two bracelets this year in the $1,500 Dealers Choice and $1,500 Mixed Pot Limit Omaha, respectively. They’re the sixth and seventh of his career. Those seven bracelets have spanned six different variants, and three have come in $10,000 Championship events. He’ll be difficult to challenge if he doesn’t pull back on his schedule. His proven versatility means he’s a threat in any event remaining on the schedule.
Scott Bohlman is in second place, 200 points and change behind, following his second career bracelet win in the $2,000 NL Hold’em event. It was his second final table of the summer, the other being a fourth-place finish in the same $1,500 Dealers Choice event won by Glaser.
Things tighten up in the chase pack, consisting of AP Garza, David Shmuel, and Caleb Furth. Those three are tightly grouped with 200 points separating them. Other players with at least 1,300 points fill out the top ten: Nick Guagenti, Michael Wilklow, Blaz Zerjav, Ramaswamy Pyloore, and Bradley Ruben.
Garza picked up his second career bracelet in the $25,000 NLH/PLO Mixed event for $1.3 million. He plays a ton of high roller events, so we expect to see him in the $100,000 High Roller on June 11 and the $250,000 High Roller a few days later. There are six more High Roller bracelet events on the schedule, but he could just as easily get distracted by other high-stakes action in Las Vegas.
Who Else is in Contention?
Dan Heimiller, Chris Moorman and Ryan Hoenig are just outside the top ten spots and could easily be in contention with another deep run. Heimiller won his third career bracelet in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud event and final tabled the $10,000 Championship in the same game. The upcoming part of the schedule plays into Heimiller’s strengths with two Seniors events and ten Mixed Game events in the next two weeks.
Moorman had a quiet start to his WSOP but then finished runner-up in the Six-Max High Roller for his fifth seven-figure career score. Moorman does well in large field No-Limit Hold’em events and tends to steer clear of high roller events.
Hoenig has four cashes on Series so far. He won his first bracelet in the Dealers Choice Championship and then third place in the $1,500 Big O.
The next third of the schedule should see some leaders start to pull away from the pack. Many of the biggest buy-in events and largest fields are coming over the next two weeks. Of course, anyone within arm’s reach of the lead could snatch a win by taking down the Main Event, but that’s easier said than done.
