As we approach the halfway mark of the 2025 World Series of Poker, Scott Bohlman has finally unseated frontrunner Benny Glaser, who held his lead for nearly two of the three weeks of the series so far.
Bohlman’s climb up the rankings began with his appearance in ninth place in the first week. One week later, he jumped all the way to second place after winning the $2,000 NL Hold’em event. In the last week, he cashed in three more events – including a final table finish for 253 POY points in the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship.
Bohlman has eight cashes in the Series so far and has put 361 points between himself and Glaser.
Glaser has gone through a dry spell, having just picked up his first cash in nearly two weeks. He made it as far as the final two tables in the $2,500 Mixed Omaha/Seven Card Stud HiLo event, good for 206 POY points.
The Chase Pack
Caleb Furth is making his case for Omaha Player of the Year with four cashes in the great game this summer. He took down the $5,000 PLO event to start his summer for 1,169 POY points, then finished runner-up in the $10,000 PLO HiLo Championship event for 587 POY points and earned $1.1 million with two other Omaha cashes.
High-Rolling Contenders
Shaun Deeb, the 2018 WSOP POY entered the top ten rankings after his ninth cash this Series. He made to back-to-back final table runs with third place in the $10,000 PLO HiLo Championship and second place in the $1,500 Razz event.
Nick Shulman picked up his seventh bracelet after an epic, eight-hour heads-up match against Darren Elias in the $10,000 No Limit 2-7 Single Draw Championship for 1,101 POY points. Most recently, he added 236 POY points from a 23rd place finish in the $10,000 Big O Championship.
Viktor Blom’s had a mercurial career. Following a rough patch, it seems he’s back on the right path in 2025 with six cashes this Series. He remains one of best in the game not to have won a bracelet, but it feels like he’s not far off. He’s had three final table runs this summer, resulting in sixth-, fourth-, and second-place finishes.
The Home Stretch
Furth, Deeb and Schulman are favorites to stay in contention until the end of the Series because they play multiple formats and at the highest stakes. There are $50,000 and $100,000 PLO High Rollers, the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, a $25,000 HORSE, a $50,000 NL Hold’em and seven Championship events remaining on the schedule.
Nick Guagenti (14th), Chris Vitch (17th), Daniel Negreanu (21st) and Jason Koon (26th) are all threats to challenge the top ten with a bracelet win or deep run in a big buy-in event.
