The Championship of Online Poker has become one of the most recognized tournament brands in online poker. PokerStars is now bringing a COOP series to players in the Canadian province of Ontario this fall.

The inaugural Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP) kicks off on Saturday with 17 days of action. The entire series runs from Oct. 1-17 with 132 tournaments and an overall guarantee of $2 million. ONCOOP becomes the largest and richest PokerStars series in Ontario yet.

What to expect from PokerStars ONCOOP

The series brings some major online tournament action to Ontario, which underwent provincial regulation earlier this year. PokerStars launched in June and is now ramping up a COOP festival for Ontario players.

The series offers something for every bankroll and interest. ONCOOP features  a range of Low and High buy-in options, allowing players of all types to get involved. Players will find two main events running on Oct. 16.

The $500 No Limit Hold’em High Main Event features a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool. The $50 Low Main Event comes with $40,000 guaranteed.

Other series highlights include:

  • $200 NLHE Kickoff (Oct. 1) – $20,000 guaranteed
  • $1,000 Sunday Special High Roller (Oct. 2) – $70,000 guaranteed
  • $300 Thursday Thrill PKO (Oct. 6) – $32,000 guaranteed
  • $100 NLHE PKO (Oct. 14) – $18,000 guaranteed

Growing the Ontario platform

Following the launch of PokerStars in Ontario, players in the Canadian province have already found some nice series.  The first of those was the Ontario Platinum Series, which featured $1 million awarded to players.

The Bounty Builder Series next ran from Sept. 4-19 with another $1 million guaranteed. Since then, Stars officials have focused on planning an even bigger series with ONCOOP. The festival now doubles the guarantee of the first two series.

Here’s a look at the complete series.

PartyPoker Launches First Series in Ontario With Poker Championships Starting Sunday

The first tournament series at PartyPoker Ontario was unveiled Thursday with Ontario Poker Championships running Sept. 11-26 with 74 events.

The first official tournament series at PartyPoker Ontario was unveiled for the Canadian market on Thursday. The Ontario Poker Championships kick off Sunday and run Sept. 11-26 with 74 events and three buy-in levels.

Players will find numerous tournament formats including six-max, seven-max, eight-max, progressive knockout (PKO), hyper, turbo, and deepstack.

“It gives us great pleasure to bring the excitement of a PartyPoker series to players in Ontario with the Ontario Poker Championships,” PartyPoker Canada regional manager Steve Spindler said in a news release.

“With at least 16 starting flights for all versions of the Main Event, chances to qualify from $0.01, and a mix of formats on the schedule, this should be the perfect opening series for players to enjoy. I look forward to seeing our Ontario players at the tables.”

Where to play?

Ontario completely regulated the province’s online gaming and poker market earlier this year. Several operators launched in the province with PartyPoker going live in April.

Players looking to get in the Ontario Poker Championships can not only play on PartyPoker, but also on BetMGM Poker and bwin in Ontario.

All three share player pools as a result of the brands’ relationship with Entain. The company owns the international PartyPoker and bwin platforms. Entertain also partners with MGM Resorts for the BetMGM online poker brand in North America.

What to expect in the PartyPoker Ontario Poker Championships

Players getting in the action have numerous events to check out and a few stand out. The Opener, featuring buy-ins ranging from $2.20 to $55, kicks off the series with guaranteed prize pools from $250 to $5,000. For those seeking bigger action, $320 and $530 high roller events run throughout the series.

The high version of the Main Event also highlights the series, featuring a $109 buy-in and a guarantee of $50,000. The tournament offers at least 16 starting flights before Day 2 plays out on the final day of the series. Qualifiers start at just $0.01, with centrolls available throughout the festival.

The $22 medium version of the Main Event brings a guarantee of $10,000. The $5.50 low Main Event promises a $5,000 guarantee. All three Main Events run concurrently.

PartyPoker’s Weekender events are also planned for both the middle and final weekend. Guarantees range from $3,000 to $15,000 with buy-ins priced at $11 to $55. At least four starting flights run Friday to Sunday with Day 2 action on Sunday nights.

The Closer PKO Turbo closes out the series on the final day with buy-ins from $5.50 to $109. Look for guarantees of $750 to $5,000. Here’s a schedule of the complete series.

COOP coming to Ontario

With a new platform in Ontario, PokerStars is also bringing the company’s popular Championship of Online Poker (COOP) brand to the market.

The Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP) becomes the first major online championship series for Stars players in the state. The series is set for Oct. 1-17 with more details coming soon.

WSOP Roundup: Series Wraps Up With Big Wins from French, Canadian Players; TOC Continues

Gregory Teboul

With the Main Event now in the rearview mirror, most of the World Series of Poker has come to a close but there has been some big action over the last week. That includes big performances by some international competitors.

Players from France found the winner’s circle in the series’ final week including Julien Martini scoring bracelet No. 4. His countryman Gregory Teboul also won some gold and a massive payday as well.

The last week also produced winners from Canada, Latvia, Italy, the Netherlands, and more. Here’s a look at some of the action from last week.

[cta id=2627 type=geo]

Event #75: $777 Lucky 7s NLHE 7-Handed

This event kickstarted a nice run by French players. Gregory Teboul (pictured in lead image) captured his first bracelet in the Lucky 7s. That brought a huge score of $777,777 with the tournament drawing 6,891entries and a $4.7 million prize pool.

Just prior to this win, Teboul also won a $400 WSOP Daily Deepstack for $31,583 – not a bad few days in Sin City.

“I feel very, very well because it’s not nothing to win a tournament in Las Vegas,” he said after his bracelet win. “It’s my fifth year here and this was the good year.”

Event 78: $2,500 NLHE

Sebastien Aube, of Quebec City, Canada, made it to the top in this event for his first bracelet and $499,636. France’s Jilien Loire took second for $308,817. This was only Aube’s second WSOP cash and taking up the game again recently proved to be a nice decision.

“I played recreationally in my 20s and when I opened my last business in the pandemic, I came upon the MasterClass of Daniel Negreanu,” he said after the win. “I always liked the guy so was like, ‘Alright, let’s go.’ He really psyched me up. It’s the same recipe to succeed in poker as it is in business, so it really called to me.”

The tournament brought in 1,364 entries for a $3 million prize pool with France’s Axel Hallay finishing fourth for $162,627.

Event 79: $10,000 Razz Championship

It was another big day for a French player in this lowball championship. Julien Martini made his entry count, scoring his fourth bracelet for $328,906.

Martini’s previous WSOP titles came in Omaha Hi/Lo, Short Deck, and Eight-Game Mix. In 2018, he also  took third in the Razz Championship for $134,587. This year’s tournament produced 125 entries for a $1.2 million prize pool.

China’s Yueqi Zhu took third for $149,958 and 2021 Main Event winner Koray Aldemir, of Germany finished fourth for $111,991. Brazilian poker pro and GGPoker ambassador Felipe Ramos finished fifth for $84,683.

Online Event 10: $3,200 High Roller

Another Canadian found the top spot at the virtual WSOP tables.  Julien Perouse, of Toronto, won his first bracelet for $324,767 and his fourth series cash, which all came in online events. Israel’s Gabriel Nastasa found third place for $137,055.

Event 80: $600 Mixed NLHE; Pot Limit Omaha Deepstack

A field of 2,107 entries produced a $1.1 million prize pool in this mixed action. Romans Voitovs, of Latvia, brought home his first bracelet and $158,609. Brazilian Francisco Baruffi finished fourth for $54,172.

Online Event 12: $5,300 High Roller Freezeout Encore

Italy’s Gianluca “Inmyhouse” Speranza found success in the penultimate online event. He locked up his first bracelet and $324,625 in an event featuring 245 entries and a $2.1 million prize pool. Japan’s Kazuki “hyahhoo3” Ikeuchi scored a fourth-place finish for $83,300.

A look at other winners

Several other players made deep runs in the series’ final week. In Event 77: $1,500 Mixed NLHE; Pot Limit Omaha, Canada’s Vincent Lam was fourth for $91,800. The United Kingdom’s Richard Kellett finished fifth for $68,274.

Johannes Straver, of the Netherlands, made a huge run in Event 81: $5,000 Freezeout NLHE. He took runner-up for $411,279. Hungary’s Peter Turmezey took third for $292,665 and UK’s Toby Lewis finished fifth for $154,806.

In Event 82: $800 Eight-Handed NLHE Deepstack, another UK player found a nice finish. Gary Whitehead secured second place for $168,093 and Ireland’s Marc MacDonnell was fourth for $95,487.

Tomasz Gluszko, of Poland, reached third place in Event 84: $3,000 HORSE for $87,687. In Event 86: $10,000 Six-Handed NLHE Championship, the Czech Republic’s Pavel Plesuv took runner-up for $509,674. Israel’s Barak Wisbrod scored fifth for $164,304.

India’s Kartik Ved finished fifth in Event 87: $5,000 Eight-Handed NLHE for $172,103. In Online Event 13: $500 NLHE Summer Saver, Bulgaria’s Boris “goldenbracelet” Kolev also finished fifth for $29,738.

OH, CANADA: PokerStars Officially Goes Live in Ontario, $1M Series Welcomes Players to Platform

Ontario regulators have approved for PokerStars to operate and the platform officially went live in the Canadian province on Tuesday.

It’s go time for PokerStars players in Ontario, Canada. After reverting to a provincially-regulated market earlier this year, Stars became the latest operator to launch in Ontario on Tuesday.

The company announced that the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) granted the company a full registration to operate.

“In many respects Ontario is our home market, given the first ever hand of PokerStars was played here over 20 years ago, so we are thrilled about the new regulated environment within which our players can play,” PokerStars managing director of marketing Tom Warren said in a news release.

“A lot has changed in that time, but our commitment to offering our players the most epic and thrilling experience in the market hasn’t – and we can’t wait to get started.”

[cta id=1754 type=cta]

Details on PokerStars’ Ontario launch

Since regulating the market, Ontario players will now find a “ringed-in” environment as seen in most legalized US states. Players will play only against others within that province.

The new legal registration provides for a regulated PokerStars-branded offering for Ontario players. This is a similar setup for Stars players in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

The legal registration also authorizes PokerStars’ three verticals of online poker, casino gaming, and sports betting. The new platform features a localized schedule as well.

Online gamers will find more than 5,000 games, poker, blackjack and more. Players will find a seamless in-app and online experience.

Tournament series in the works

Players heading to PokerStars Ontario can already expect some major tournament action with the launch of the new platform. To mark the occasion, the site will host the Ontario Platinum Series from July 10-18 with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

“There is much more ahead in Ontario this summer with epic events and experiences in the works for players who join the PokerStars family,” the company noted in announcing the launch. Some of that includes:

  • a new rewards program giving players double rewards throughout July and August
  • a new weekly flagship event known as the New Sunday Major with a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool
  • exclusive with promotions with its gaming partner Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment

For Canadian players outside Ontario, PokerStars will continue to serve these players with the international platform.

BetMGM Expands $1M Poker Championship Qualifying to Online Players in Ontario, Canada

After recently announcing the BetMGM Poker Championship this in Las Vegas, on Thursday the company expanded online qualifying opportunities Ontario.

After recently announcing the new BetMGM Poker Championship this summer in Las Vegas, on Thursday expanded qualifying opportunities to online poker players in Ontario.

The $3,500 championship is set for June 23-26 as part of the Aria Poker Classic and comes with a $1 million guarantee. Players in Ontario can now qualify for the event beginning this weekend. Qualifiers and satellites will run on a rolling basis and BetMGM is awarding six complete tournament packages.

“The first-ever BetMGM Poker Championship descends on Las Vegas during one of the most exciting times of the poker season,” BetMGM director of poker Luke Staudenmaier said in a news release.

“Aria is a legendary poker brand and we’re thrilled that the championship has become an integral part of this year’s Poker Classic. Through our relationship with MGM Resorts and its world-class US properties, we’ll continue to leverage event programming and connect with players both online and in their favorite poker rooms.”

[cta id=2907 type=geo]

Qualifying via BetMGM

Ontario is the fourth online poker market for BetMGM, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan in the US. The province began regulating the market this year, creating a ringed-in environment as seen in the US.

BetMGM also shares player pools with partypoker in Ontario, but players only compete against others within the province.

The platform is operated by Roar Digital, owned by MGM Resorts and Entain (owner of the international partypoker brand). Roar officials are now planning more utilization of MGM’s popular casino resorts and poker rooms in coordination with the online product.

Ontario players looking to grab a seat in the BetMGM Poker Championship now have several opportunities. There are numerous satellites running with two qualifiers planned for three upcoming Sundays: May 29, June 5 and 12. Winners receive a prize package that include:

  • tournament buy-in
  • travel expenses
  • five-night stay at Aria

More on tap for Vegas satellite winners

In the US, online poker is legal on a state-by-state basis and BetMGM has become one of the country’s major operators. The brand is a skin of the partypoker US Network, along with Borgata Poker. All three skins share player pools in each state as BetMGM and party do in Ontario.

Winners can expect a fun few days of action in Las Vegas. Beyond the championship, the company is promising sportsbook watching parties and other activities.

A $600 BetMGM Poker Mystery Bounty is also planned for June 25. This is the first time Aria has run this popular version of a traditional bounty tournament.

The BetMGM Poker Championship is the second opportunity for online players to qualify online for a live event at an MGM property. In the US, players in the March Poker Mania series could also qualify for a tournament at the Borgata in Atlantic City.

Those efforts now expand to Canadian players in Ontario. Four-time World Poker Tour champion and BetMGM ambassador Darren Elias is excited to see expansion of online- and live event cross-promotions.

“BetMGM is particularly well-equipped to offer these sorts of events as our online platforms can qualify players to events at any of our MGM properties,” he recently told USPoker. “Whether that be Aria and Bellagio in Las Vegas or Borgata and MGM National Harbor on the East Coast, players can expect to play at some of the premier poker destinations in the country.

“This recent Borgata event we ran and the upcoming BetMGM Aria event should only be the beginning. I’m expecting to see more integration between the live and online arenas and even larger events in the future.”

Partypoker Becomes Latest Option for Canadian Players in Ontario; Platform Now Live

WSOP.ca and GGPoker are hosting the WSOP Winter Circuit Ontario from Dec. 4 – Jan. 9 with $5 million guaranteed.

As the Canadian province of Ontario continues transitioning to a regulated market, another operator jumped in the market on Tuesday. Partypoker announced its fully-licensed online poker room was open for business in the province.

The company also outlined how players will transition from the international site to the Ontario platform. Party now offers online sports betting and casino gaming in Ontario as well.

“I am truly excited that all three of our Party brands are entering the Ontario market,” party brands managing director Vic Walia said in a news release.

“Both recreational and professional players living in Ontario will be able to experience a world-class gaming product across poker, casino and sports. As a Canadian and Toronto native myself, I am particularly proud of this moment in our company’s history.”

[cta id=2982 type=cta]

Changes come to Ontario

The party launch is the latest move into the province by online poker companies. Regulators have transitioned Ontario from a market open to international online poker sites to a regional approach.

Players will now be part of a “ringed-in” environment as seen in states in the US. Players compete only against others within Ontario.

With a population of 14.6 million and large cities like Toronto and Ottawa, most online poker operators have adapted to the changes.

888poker and BetMGM are both live in the province as well. GGPoker also plans to launch a World Series of Poker-branded site soon.

Partypoker players can transfer their accounts

Those in Ontario who are already party players will see their accounts transferred to the new platform. Once on the site, players will find a seamless experience for poker, casino games, and sports betting.

Canadian dollars are also now in use for partypoker Ontario. Players’ cash balances will be transferred and converted into the new currency after a few steps including:

  • consenting to the new Ontario-specific terms, conditions, and privacy policy
  • reviewing personal information
  • verifying player identity

Players will find the new tournament schedule features partypoker favorites like Daily Legends and Super Sunday events. Players can play cash games, fastforward quick-play cash games, SPINS events, and sit and gos.

Party also launches casino, sports betting

The partypoker site is only part of the offerings from the company in Ontario. Party Casino and Party Sports offer players even more options.

BetMGM Plants Flag in Ontario as First Regulated Online Poker Operator Under New Rules

Ontario regulators have approved for PokerStars to operate and the platform officially went live in the Canadian province on Tuesday.

After recent regulatory changes, BetMGM became the first online poker platform to launch in the Canadian province of Ontario on Wednesday.

Ontario, home to major cities like Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton, has shifted away from a “grey” market to a regulated environment. That’s had online gaming companies lining up to get in the action in the province.

MGM now becomes the first new operator in the province with a platform for the new regulated environment (and not previously available in the “grey” market). More operators are expected to follow suit in the coming weeks.

“BetMGM Poker brings an agile, diverse, and player-centric platform to Canadian players,” BetMGM director of poker Luke Staudenmaier said in a news release. “Through high-visibility partnerships, the brand will also connect players with world-class omni-channel experiences and poker legends, like brand ambassador Darren Elias.

“We look forward to building our community in Ontario, welcoming players to our tables, and providing safe, accessible, and entertaining options.”

BetMGM becomes first in regulated Ontario

Ontario becomes the fourth market for BetMGM, which is a skin of the Partypoker US Network. In the US, the company operates in:

The company also operates the Borgata Poker skin as well in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Like in the US states, the Ontario market will function as a “ringed-in” market.

That has players competing only against others within Ontario. The move means players will transition from the grey market to a more regulated environment. Ontario offers a nice market for online poker with almost 14.6 million people.

There is potential to share liquidity with other provinces eventually as Quebec, British Columbia, and Manitoba all host officially government-sanctioned sites. Those in Quebec and British Columbia currently operate a shared network and liquidity.

For BetMGM, adding poker in Ontario brings a full betting experience to the province. The company launched online sportsbook and casino operations on April 4.

Growing the brand

Not only does Ontario present a fourth market for the company, but MGM’s first outside the US. The company is part of ROAR Digital, a partnership between MGM and Entain, owner of the international partypoker brand.

BetMGM poker offers players a number of poker variants, signature poker tournaments, and cash games of all buy-in levels. The platform also operates the Fast Forward quick-play poker option and also features the Grind Rewards program.

In the US, the operator has ramped its tournament offerings in recent months. The company has run synchronized tournament series in each of the three legal US states. The site has also given each series a more distinct name than previously seen with monthly online festivals.

“We want to make our players … excited about the game of poker and we’ve found that variety in our month-to-month offers helps to pique their interest,” Staudenmaier told USPoker recently. “We want our players to recognize us as thoughtful and innovative, just like players themselves when making decisions at the table.”

The company also regularly partners with the Borgata casino, MGM property, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The casino’s poker room is one of the most popular poker rooms in the Northeast and offers partypoker/BetMGM some synergy in marketing online and live events.

While exact details aren’t yet known, poker players can probably expect similar tournament series and promotions as seen in the US. To celebrate the launch in Ontario, BetMGM is hosting daily Welcome Freeroll tournaments through April 30.

The BetMGM Poker apps are accessible in Canada on both Apple iOS and Android, as well as via desktop and laptop computers.

Market Updates: Ontario Regulations Restrict Online Poker; Partypoker Pulls Out of Russia

WSOP.ca and GGPoker are hosting the WSOP Winter Circuit Ontario from Dec. 4 – Jan. 9 with $5 million guaranteed.

Canada has long been a card-playing hotspot and that goes for online poker as well. However, players in the province of Ontario may have received some unwelcome news recently.

In late January, provincial officials released a launch date for the Ontario private online poker market. The new rules, however, may leave players locked out of the international player pool.

Instead, players will find themselves in a “ringed-in” environment, similar to the state-by-state approach currently in the United States.

“On (Jan. 28), the province revealed the launch date for its new market, April 4,” Online Poker Report noted. “On that date, companies without an operating agreement will have to cease serving Ontario customers. Those that don’t comply will find themselves on the province’s black list.

“Those who do launch in the new market will have to comply with its regulations. Among these, Online Poker Report has learned, is the stipulation that Ontario poker sites cannot share traffic with other jurisdictions.”

[cta id=1776 type=list]

A new playing field

Where the market is exactly headed remains an open question at this point. Until now, Ontario players could play in the open market on major sites like PokerStars and partypoker.

These sites would now have to re-enter the regulated market and provide a separate platform within the province. This would be a major departure from the historical online poker scene in the country and set it apart from other Canadian provinces.

“‘Sharing traffic’ is not allowed as pooled liquidity is not permitted in the Ontario regulated market,” a provincial gaming regulator told OPR.

Players in Quebec, British Columbia, and Manitoba have the option of official government-sanctioned sites. Those sites in Quebec and British Columbia already have a shared network and liquidity. Ontario could possibly join that at some point.

However, players in those other provinces also have the option of playing internationally in a gray market. Ontario players may not have that option.

Under the new regulations, poker platforms are disincentivized in Ontario under the plan. An operator that continues offering poker to Ontarians could be blackballed from ever offering legalized poker, sports betting, and other online gaming. That would curtail significant revenue generators in the province.

Players concerned about market changes

Operators haven’t responded yet to the change in the Ontario market. The moves have left some players disappointed in how the process has played out.

Mike Millard, 33, live in Whitby, Ontario, just outside Toronto. He’s a part-time player who works in digital media strategy by day. However, Millard plays poker about 24 hours a week as a second job.

“I grind most of my schedule on partypoker, but fill the schedule with PokerStars and GGPoker tournaments sprinkled in,” he says.

For major series, Millard may even take the entire time off work. The new changes have him frustrated with where online poker is headed in his home province.

“To anyone – like me – who thought the new Ontario regulations were a good thing … this is absolutely brutal news for poker players based in Ontario,” he recently noted on Twitter.

“I’m really curious how successful this will be. With the ability to play on all major sites and anti-government sentiment regarding their involvement with live casino poker, I can’t see why anyone would play on an Ontario-only site.”

Another ringed-in market?

Ringed-in markets allow players only to compete against other players in the same jurisdiction. In other words, Ontario players would be limited to playing against others in that province only.

The potential player pool for these players would shrink from the global market to Ontario’s almost 14.6 million people. These types of “ringed-in” or “fenced-in” markets have limited success as seen in US states like Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

India and Italy also feature similar setups for players in those countries. Ontario’s population comes in just ahead of Pennsylvania’s 12.8 million in the US. The Keystone State is the US’s largest online poker market by comparison.

Another reason operators may want to comply is the potential to operate or continue doing business in the US. As more states expand online gaming, companies don’t want to be seen as operating illegally in other countries.

“US regulators tend not to look kindly on operators who serve black markets,” OPR notes. “Even if Ontario can’t directly force operators to comply, the threat of losing market access in the US will be sufficient in most cases.”

Partypoker exits Russia

In other news along these same lines as not serving black markets, partypoker also pulled out of Russia last week. Parent company Entain cited legal concerns for the move.

“It’s correct we are removing services from various locations due to regulatory issues,” party Twitch and community manager Colette Stewart noted on the site’s Discord server.

Russia is a large market that has seen considerable online poker growth recently. However, Entertain has worked to shift to regulated markets in recent years and left other markets as well.

PokerStars has made similar moves in some markets in recent years, but remains operating in Russia as of now. The company’s European Poker Tour also has a stop scheduled for Sochi from March 18-27.

888poker, GGPoker, and some other sites still operate in the country.

World Cup of Cards Debuts Online This Week at Partypoker

Another major series returns to partypoker with the World Cup of Cards running June 16 to July 8 and featuring a $1 million main event.

Another major tournament series returns to partypoker this week with the online debut of the World Cup of Cards. The 12-event festival runs June 16 to July 8 and features mini versions of each tournament.

The series is normally hosted by Playground Poker Club in Quebec, Canada. However, the 2021 version will be online and is open to all players, not just those in Canada.

Party is planning plenty of action with qualifying opportunities for players of all bankrolls.

Inside partypoker’s World Cup of Cards schedule

Partypoker has worked to make the online World Cup very player friendly. Tournaments will feature shorter clocks allowing for earlier finishes.

The company even planned key events to fit around this summer’s European Football Championship.

The $55 Grand Prix Knockout kicks off the series on opening day and comes with a $250,000 guarantee. The tournament features several starting flights before wrapping up on June 24.

A $5.50 Grand Prix Mini Knockout also offers a nice option for players looking for a bargain-priced event. The Mini Knockout also features multiple starting flights and a $50,000 guarantee.

The three-day $1,100 Main Event includes a $1 million guarantee with starting flights on June 27 and July 1 and 4. An additional Day 1 turbo is set for July 5.

The final table plays out on July 8 and partypoker notes that the day “avoids a clash with any major football matches.”

Another interesting event is the $320 Playground Cup, which comes with a $125,000 guarantee. The event is set for June 25-27 with four starting flights.

Players can also check out the $33 mini version of the tournament with a $50,000 guarantee. All events feature No Limit Hold’em and additional side events may be added to the schedule in coming days.

Lower cost options to get in the action

Partypoker has worked to make the World Cup appeal to players of all bankrolls. The site has a comprehensive satellite plan for the series including for the main event.

Players can qualify from just $0.01 and 20 tickets are awarded every week. A trip to play in Canada may not be possible, but partypoker hopes the action online fills the void.

“I’m looking forward to partypoker bringing the World Cup of Cards online,” Team partypoker’s Kristen Bicknell said in a news release. “I’m missing playing at Playground, which is such an exciting place to play live, but hopefully we will see this series back there soon.

“In the meantime, I’m most looking forward to the Main Event, which should be a great tournament. As always, there will be great satellites running, but if you don’t manage to make it through, the $5.50 and $55 Grand Prix tournaments are a helpful lower-stakes option.”

Here’s a look at the complete schedule.
